Air and Heat Flow through Large Vertical Openings

چکیده
After a short description of the physical phenomena involved, unified expressions are worked out describing net airflow and net heat flow through large vertical openings between stratified zones. These formulae are based on those of Cockroft for bidirectional flow, but are more general in the sense that they apply to situations of unidirectional flow as well. The expressions are compatible with a pressure network description for multizone modelling of airflow in buildings. The technique has been incorporated in the flows solver of the ESP-r building and plant energy simulation environment. The relative importance of the governing variables (pressure difference, temperature difference and vertical air temperature gradients) is demonstrated by parametric analysis of energy performance in a typical building context. It is concluded that vertical air temperature gradients have a major influence on the heat transferred through large openings in buildings and should be included in building energy simulation models.

Comparison of heat loss and air infiltration through the openings of Qajar and Pahlavi era houses in Tabriz
The rapidly growing world energy use has already raised concerns over energy resources and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Since the global contribution from residential buildings towards energy consumption, has steadily increased between 20% and 40% and as large openings have considerable energy and heat loss in dwellings, this paper establishes a coefficient of heat loss and air infiltration ...
متن کاملOptimizing naturally driven air flow in a vertical pipe by changing the intensity and location of the wall heat flux
Heat transfer from the internal surfaces of a vertical pipe to the adjacent air gives rise to the air flow establishment within the pipe. With the aim of optimizing the convective air flow rate in a vertical pipe, the details of the flow and thermal fields were investigated in the present study. Conservation equations of mass, momentum, and energy were solved numerically using simple implicit f...
متن کاملExperimental study of free convective heat transfer in a direction-sensitive open cavity
The aim of the present study was to propose a panel being sensitive to the direction of heat transfer. For this purpose, a vertical rectangular cavity with prescribed dimensions was prepared and filled with water as the working fluid. A vertical mid-plane solid partition was installed within the cavity. Two relatively wide openings were created at the top and bottom of the partition and they we...

This work indicates a numerical study on the laminar heat transfer mixed convection in a square cavity with two openings (an inlet and an outlet) on vertical walls through which nanofluid flows. Two flow directions are examined: i) ascending flow which enters the bottom opening and exits the upper opening; ii) descending flow which enters the upper opening and exits the bottom opening. The asce...

Two-phase heat transfer is experimentally examined through vertical small diameter tubes, D =1.45 and 2.8 mm using water under a pressure of 50 to 81 kPa and a natural circulation condition. The pool boiling correlation by Stephan-Abdelsalam and the thermosyphon boiling correlation by Imura, et al. predict the measured experimental data in the 2.8 mm tube with an error of -30%. A large heat tra...
